THERESA EMIGRATED TO THE U,S, AROUND 1890 AND WORKED AS A COOK
FOR A DOCTOR COHEN IN N.Y.CITY WHO HAPPENED TO BE ON THE BOARD
OF THE N.Y.PHILHARMONIC SOCIETY. THROUGH RELATIVES IN N.Y.,
SHE MET AND MARRIED GEORGE L. MARKERT FROM PHILA., A WIDOWER
WITH FOUR CHILDREN, ON SEPT. 5, 1906. GEORGE WAS A SALOON KEEP-
ER UNTIL PROHIBITION CAME IN IN 1918. SOMETIME BEFORE THAT THERSA SENTFOR HER BRTOTHER GUSTAVE, JR. AND HE EMIGRATED
TO KENSINGTON IN PHILA., AND OPENED A BUTCHER SHOP WHICH HE RAN
UNTIL HE DIED IN 1971. THERESA REARED THE FOUR CHILDREN OF GEORGE PLUSFOUR OF THEIR OWN. A FIFTH CHILD, KATHERINE, DIED
AS AN INFANT. THERESA DIED ON DECEMBER 19, 1943, AND GEORGE
DIED ON MAY 22, 1953. EDNA AND MARGRETTA WERE BORN IN THE AREA OF 29TH& JEFFERSON STS. IN PHILA PRIOR TO 1104 ARCH ST WHERE DAD HAD HIS SALOON.JOE AND STEVE, SR. WERE BOTH BORN AT THIS ADDRESS. FOR THE RECORD:CHARLES WAS 14 YRS OLD WHEN HE RETURNED FROM GERMANY; LOUIS WAS 2 YRSOLD WHEN GEORGE AND THERESA WERE MARRIED.
